Gallery  - Jenelle

The creation of Jenelle’s piece began with her simple wedding outfit of an embroidered and beaded bodice (with covered buttons and diamanté spaghetti straps) and A-line satin skirt. The bodice straps, lining and boning were removed, and each panel separated.

The skirt had the waistband and lining removed, and panels separated. One skirt panel was used to almost entirely cover the base, whilst the others were cut into smaller pieces, hemmed, pin-tucked, and formed into sculptural shapes.

The veil was cut into sections, some featuring the gold trim edge. Two lace horseshoes were deconstructed, with attached ribbons remaining and stitched sculpturally to the base. Both the lining and the fabric of a small pouch bag were included, as were a ‘blue’ garter and ‘old’ handkerchief.

The tiara was flattened and nestled in the folds of the fabric, and a hanging metal heart ornament peeps out from a fabric edge.

The waistband was flattened and used to create the naming panel at the rear, which was framed with a remaining ribbon.

Although everything initially appears to be white, you can see that there are actually many different shades. When placing all the pieces, great consideration was given to the harmonious distribution of these element. Negative space was also considered – rather than covering the entire canvas, Svenja wanted to create a sense of sculptural movement across it.
